V Stitch Halter Top Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Everyone!

We’re coming to the end of summer and therefore the end of my summer patterns. I’ll still be publishing a few more before the winter patterns start coming but this nice, open, and breathable halter will likely be the last halter pattern of the year so I hope you all enjoy it!

This pattern is a quick make and uses less than 200 grams of yarn making it a great project to use with some of your left over summer yarns from previous projects. It also uses a weight 4 yarn so it works up even more quickly than many of my other patterns.

This post will contain affiliate links, this just means if you make a purchase using some of my patterns I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only endorse products I personally use and would purchase again.

Let’s get hooking!

Supplies

2 100 gram balls of a weight 4 yarn. I used natural cotton worsted from iceyarns.

4.5mm crochet hook

Scissors

Darning needle

Stitch marker

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

Sc- Single crochet

DC- Double crochet

Notes

You may use whatever size hook and yarn you would like just use the custom size options to do so.

8 single crochet rows=2 inches 9 sc stitches=2 inches

If you go down a hook size nd work a row of sc under the cup before sewing it on it will provide better support.

Cups

Ch 13

Row 1- Work 1 sc in the second ch from hook and in each ch across until you reach your last ch. Work 3 sc into your last ch, place a marker in the second sc of this cluster. Work 1 sc in the BLO on each ch stitch down the back. (25)

Row 2-(13 Extra Small)(16 Small)(19 Medium)(22 large)(25 Extra Large)(28 2X)(31 3X)- Ch 1, turn your work, work 1 sc in each stitch until you reach your stitch marker. Remove marker, work 3 sc into the same stitch. Place stitch marker in the second stitch of your 3 sc. Work 1 sc in each remaining stitch.

Tie off leaving a 10-12 inch tail. You will use this tail to sew your cups to your stomach band. Do not remove stitch markers.

Make 2.

Custom sizing cups.

If you want to use a different yarn, or custom size it with the weight 4 yarn here are the instructions on how to do that.

Make a chain that reaches from under your breast to your nipple. If your breasts sag (don’t worry mine do too) just lift your breast up and still measure from the bottom to your nipple.

From here you will work each row the same as above until it comfortably covers as much of your breast as you would like to be covered. You can also take one of your bra cups and once the bottom of your crocheted cup is as wide as your bra cup you should be done. You can add a few extra rows from this point to add more coverage if you would like to.

Stomach Band

Work a number of foundation sc stitches that are equal to a multiple of 6+3. If you dont know the foundation sc you can chain a multiple of 6+4. For my size and I fit an extra large I worked 159 foundation sc to cinch entirely shut. You can use an open back by making less base stitches.

Row 1- Work a sc foundation row of a multiple of 6+3

Row 2- Ch 1, work 1 sc in each stitch across.

Row 3- Ch 2, DC in the first stitch. Skip the next stitch *DC, ch 1, DC into the next stitch. Skip the next 2 stitches* Repeat * across. At the end of the row work 2 DC in the last stitch.

Row 4-13(or until it’s about half an inch less than your desired length) Ch 2, skip first stitch DC in the second. *DC, ch 1, DC in the first ch space from hook. Skip the next 2 stitches so you’ll be in the next ch space.* Repeat * across.

Row 14-15 Ch 1, work 1 sc in each stitch across.

Tie off, weave in ends.

Ch 200, or however long of a chain you need to lace up the back of your top. This will be used to corset lace your top shut in the back.

Joining cups and stomach band

Fold your stomach band in half and place a stitch marker at the fold. This is where you will begin sewing on your cups.

Using your long tail left on your cups begin in the stitch your marker is in and sew across. I use the whip stitch but you can use whatever stitch you’re most comfortable with.

Repeat with the other cup make sure you weave in your ends left from sewing to secure your stitches.

Straps

Tying on next to your stitch marker ch 2, work 1 dc in the same stitch, 1 DC in the stitch your marker was in, and 1 DC in the next stitch.

Ch 2, DC in the 3 stitches you just made. Repeat until it’s long en ough to tie comfortably around your neck. I use 35 rows.

Tie off. Weave in ends.
