Lilac Beach Bralette Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Everyone!

It’s Friday once again and I’m bringing you another pattern as a part of my plus size pattern collection. I’ve been working to bring you a new summer clothing pattern that not only is made with a plus size person in mind, but with custom sizing options for those whose bodies don’t fit into the box of standard sizing.

This pattern is a great project for beginners looking to step out of their comfort zone and make an article of clothing. It uses beginner friendly stitches, and works up quickly since it uses a weight 4 yarn. The yarn I used is a cotton blend to keep it cool and comfortable even in the hot summer months.

This post will contain affiliate links, this means if you make a purchase using some of my links I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only endorse products I personally use and would buy again.

Let’s get hooking.

Supplies

5mm crochet hook

150-200 grams of a weight 4 cotton blend yarn. I used pastel cotton from ice yarns which is currently unavailable, but the cotton worsted from ice yarns is a great substitute.

Stitch marker

Darning needle

Scissors, I like the clover yarn cutter

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

Sc- Single crochet

DC- Double crochet

HDC- Half double crochet

Slst- Slip stitch

FLO- Front loop only

BLO- Back loop only

Bralette Pattern

Band

Ch 4

This top will tie in a bow in the back to close so it should be long enough to allow enough material for the tie.

Row 1- Work 1 DC in the third ch from hook, and in the last ch.

Rows 2-50- Ch 1, turn, work 1 DC in each stitch.

Row 51- Ch 1, work 2 HDC in each stitch (4)

Row 52- Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each stitch across. (4)

Row 54- Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each stitch across. (6)

Row 55- Repeat row 53 (8)

Row 56- Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each stitch across. (8)

Row 157- Repeat row 151 (6)

Row 158- Ch 1, HDC in each stitch across (6)

Row 159- Repeat row 151 (4)

Row 160- Ch 1, HDC in each stitch across. (4)

Row 161- Repeat row 151 (2)

Row 162-211- Ch 2, work 1 DC in each stitch across.

Tie off, weave in ends.

For custom sized band work the beginning and end repeats until it’s as long as you would like for the tie (these are the rows where you work 2 DC across.) This will need to reach around your back and make a comfortable bow.

For the center repeat (14 HDC across) Work until it fits comfortably around the front of your ribcage. You can make it fit longer if you would like but I had the decrease begin at my sides so its thinner in the back.

Cups

(Custom sizing options will be listed at the bottom of the section)

Ch 16

Row 1- Work 1 sc in the FLO of the second ch and in each ch across until you have 1 remaining. Work 3 sc in the last ch stitch, place a stitch marker in the second stitch of your increase. Work 1 sc in the BLO of your ch row. (You will be working down the back side so you have sc on each side of your base ch stitches. (31)

Row 2- Ch 1, turn your work, work 1 sc in each stitch until you reach your stitch marker. Remove stitch marker, and wrk 3 sc in the space your stitch marker was in. Place your stitch marker in the second stitch of your increase. Work 1 sc in each remaining stitch. (33)

Rows 2-(13 xsmall)(15 small)(17 medium)(19 large)(21 xlarge)(23 2X)(25 3X)- Repeat row 2.

Tie off, make another cup.

For custom sizing make your base chain long enough to reach the bottom of your breast to your nipple. Follow the pattern exactly the same from there until it comfortably fits.

Sewing on cups

Fold your waist band in half and mark the half way point with a stitch marker.

Count 2 stitches over from your marker on each side and place a marker in those stitches.

Use a whip stitch (or whatever stitch works best for you) and sew your cups on starting from the markers placed on either side of your center point.

Weave in ends.

Straps

Tie on one stitch over from the stitch marker at the top of your cup. (You will be working across to the other side of your marker so it’s 3 stitches in total)

Row 1- Ch 2, skip the stitch you tied onto, remove your stitch marker and DC in the stitch your marker was in, and DC in the next stitch.

Row 2-50(or however long you want your ties to be. They need to be long enough to tie comfortably around your neck.- Ch 2, turn, skip your first stitch and DC into the next 2 stitches. (Your beginning chain 2 will count as a stitch)

Tie off, weave in ends.

Cup Border

Tie on into the bottom corner of your strap that’s facing the inside of your cup. (towards the center.)

Sc into the closest stitch of your cup, HDC into the next stitch, DC into the next stitch. Work 1 DC in each stitch until you reach the space between your cups.

Ch 2, skip the space in between your cups, and work 1 DC into the bottom DC of the next cup. Work 1 DC in each stitch up the inside of your second cup until you have 2 stitches remaining before your strap. HDC in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, and slst into the beginning row of your strap.

Tie off. Weave in ends.

  1. Hi there, I’m making this bralette for my granddaughter. It states to use 4 yarn. In Scotland that would translate as Aran weight. However, I have done 20 rows of the the 14 stitch rows which I assume is the front band and it’s already
8 inches. At that rate the front band would be 32 inches. Could you please help. Also a back view and some measurements of the finished garment would be helpful

    1. Hello thank you for the questions so I don’t have a back view available (it is winter in Minnesota right now) but the back is supposed to tie shut. It’s supposed to be pretty long so you have plenty of material to tie a bow with. Sorry for the late response I am much more responsive through my Facebook page.
