Spring Puff Ear Warmer Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Everyone!

It’s Friday once again and I’m here with a new crochet pattern perfect for spring time. This crochet ear warmer uses a nice textured stitch that creates a light ribbing texture that’s not too thick but also keeps your ear warm on chilly spring days.

If you’ve been here in pretty much any of the recent weeks I’m sure you’ve either read about or notices my ear warmer obsession that comes with this time of year. They’re just perfect in my opinion! Nice quick and easy projects I can work on in the evening and wear during the day while I’m doing spring foraging or prepping the yard for gardening.

Supplies

About 50 grams of a weight 4 yarn. I used mainstays turquoise for the solid colored one, and some left overs of a Red Heart Super Saver for the variegated ones.

5mm crochet hook.

Button. The black one is from this set on amazon, and the white one can be found in this set.

Darning needle.

Scissors, I like the clover yarn cutter.

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

HDC- Half double crochet

HDCPS- Half double crochet puff stitch If you’re unfamiliar with this stitch you can view a video tutorial here.

Sc- Single crochet

Slst- Slip stitch

Crochet Ear Warmer Pattern

Ch 4

Row 1- HDC in the second ch from hook and in each ch across

Row 2- Ch 1, 2 HDC in the first stitch, 1 HDC in the next stitch, 2 HDC in the last stitch. (5)

Row 3- Ch 1, 1 HDC in the first stitch, ch 3 work 1 HDC in the last stitch.

Row 4- Ch 1, 2 HDC in the first stitch, 1 HDC in each ch stitch, 2 HDC in the last stitch (7)

Row 5- Ch 1, HDC in each stitch across,

Row 6- Ch 1, work 2 HDC in the first stitch, 1 HDC in the next 5 stitches, 2 HDC in the last stitch. (9)

Row 7- Ch 1, HDC across.

Row 8- Ch 1, work 2 HDC in the first stitch, 1 HDC in the next 7 stitches, 2 HDC in the last stitch. (11)

Row 9- Ch 1, HDC across

Row 10- Ch 1, *HDC in the next stitch, HDCPS in the next stitch.* Repeat * across.

Rows 11-63- Repeat rows 9-10

Row 64- Ch 1, HDC decrease, HDC across until you have 2 stitches remaining, HDC decrease in the last 2 stitches. (9)

Row 65- Ch 1, HDC in each stitch across.

Row 66- Ch 1, HDC decrease, HDC across until you have 2 stitches remaining, HDC decrease in the last 2 stitches. (7)

Row 67- Ch 1, HDC across.

Row 68- Ch 1, HDC decrease, HDC across until you have 2 stitches remaining, HDC decrease in the last 2 stitches. (5)

Row 69- Ch 1, HDC decrease, HDC across until you have 2 stitches remaining, HDC decrease in the last 2 stitches.(3)

Row 70- Ch 1, HDC across.

Border

Ch 1 at the end of row 70 do not turn.

Work 1 sc into the side of each HDC row.

Ch 1 once you reach the other end and HDC in the top of each stitch at the other end.

Ch 1, working down the other side work 1 sc into the side of each HDC row.

Ch 1 at the end of the side, slst into the next stitch.

Tie off, weave in ends.
