Summer Baby Cardigan Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Everyone!

My friends baby shower is officially less than a week away now (at least this friends baby shower I have SO many baby showers coming up). She’s going to be having her baby very soon so I decided it was perfect to get some summer baby crochet done! I have some lovely baby cotton from ice yarns left over from last years summer yarn collection (I will link to it in the supplies section).

Supplies

3.25mm crochet hook

2 50 gram balls of a weight 2 yarn in your main color. 1 50 gram ball of your secondary color. I used summer baby from iceyarns.

Stitch markers.

Scissors

Darning needle (for weaving in ends.)

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

HDC- Half double crochet

DC- Double crochet

FLDC- Front loop double crochet

FPDC- Front post double crochet

BPDC- Back post double crochet

Slst- Slip stitch

Notes

The size listed is for 3-6 months. I will add more sizes in the future.

Gauge- 6 stitches=1 inch

Baby Cardigan Pattern

Ch 90

Row 1- DC in third ch from hook and in the next 13 stitches. Work 3 DC in the next stitch. Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of your increase. DC in the next 14 stitches, 3 DC in the next stitch. Place a marker in the second stitch of your increase. DC in the next 28 stitches, 3 DC in the next stitch. Place a marker in the second stitch of your increase. Work 1 DC in the next 14 stitches, 3 DC in the next stitch. Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of your increase. Work 1 DC in each of the remaining stitches.

Rows 2-10- Ch 2, turn, *Work 1 DC in each stitch until you reach your next stitch marker. Remove marker, work 3 DC in the stitch your marker was in and replace marker in the second stitch of your increase.* Repeat * around.

Row 11- Ch 1, turn, work 1 HDC in each stitch until you reach your first marker remove marker and HDC into the stitch your marker was in. Fold your yoke in half, ch 1, and work 1 HDC in the same stitch your next stitch marker was in. Work 1 HDC in each stitch until you reach your next stitch marker remove marker and HDC in the space your marker was in. Ch 1, HDC in the stitch your next marker was in. HDC in each remaining stitch,

Row 12- Ch 2, turn, BLDC in each stitch around.

Row 13- Ch 1, turn HDC in each stitch around.

Rows 14-29- Repeat rows 12-13.

Tie off. Join color 2.

Row 20- Ch 2, turn, BLDC in each stitch around.

Row 21-22 Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC in each stitch around.

At the end of row 22 ch 1, turn your work so you’re facing up the inside of the opening of your cardigan. Work 1 sc into the side of each DC row going up. Skip the HDC rows.

Once you reach the neckline ch 2, turn so you’re going across your neckline. Alternate FPDC and BPDC across the neckline.

At the end of your neckline ch 2, face down your other side of your cardigan and repeat the border you did on the other side.

Once you reach the bottom of that side tie off and weave in ends.

Sleeves

Row 1- Tie on in the armpit of your armhole opening. Ch 2 work 1 DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.

Row 2-3 Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.

Tie off, weave in ends.
