Hello everyone!
It’s day 6 of our 12 of day of Christmas crochet pattern blowout and we’re doing our first sweater of the winter! This is also the first top-down sweater I’ve ever designed, and my first turtleneck sweater! I’m super excited about today’s design and have been obsessed with turtlenecks ever since so expect to see a few more before the snow melts.
This sweater is worked loosely so you can see through it so it’s perfect to throw over like a sports bra, a tank top, or even just throw on some pasties (or don’t) and wear it as is! Just giving a heads up the way this is designed I like to wear it as a nice warm winter item that i can take off when I get into a nice warm house!

Supplies
I used about 6 100 gram balls of the main color (burgundy) in weight 4. I used favorite from ice yarns.
2 100 gram balls of my secondary color (gray) in weight 4. I used ice yarns favorite for this color as well.
5.5mm crochet hook
Scissors
Darning needle
Tape measure to take your measurements
Abbreviations
Ch- Chain
DC- Double crochet
Sc- Single crochet
FPDC- Front post double crochet
BPDC- Back post double crochet
Slst- Slip stitch
Notes
Gauge 4 stitches= 2 inches
The size chart below shows the body measurements not the finished measurements of the design. This sweater is made to be baggy and a little oversized.
You can skip the turtleneck if you would like to by starting with 60 foundation DC and then continuing the pattern as normal. At the end you can tie off, go to the neckline and add a few rows of alternating FPDC and BPDC to give a border.
Crochet Sweater Pattern

Row 1- Work 59 foundation DC and join to beginning with slst. (60)
Rows 2-12- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 13- Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next stitch* Repeat * until you have worked 9 stitches, DC, sc, DC in the next stitch (10th stitch). Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of increase.
Repeat * for 9 more stitches. DC, sc, DC in the next stitch (10th stitch). Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of increase.
Repeat * for 19 stitches. DC, sc, DC in the next stitch (20th stitch). Place a stitch marker in second stitch of increase.
Repeat * for 9 stitches. DC, sc, DC in the next stitch (10th stitch). Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of increase.
Repeat * for the final 10 stitches, you will end with a DC in the final stitch. Join to beginning with slst.
Rows 14- 26(small) 28 (medium) 30 (large) 32 (XL) 34 (2x) 36 (3x) 38 (4x) 40 (5x)- Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next stitch* Repeat * around. DC, sc, DC in each of the stitch marker spaces. Place the stitch marker back into the second stitch of your increase.
Row 27 (small) 29 (medium) 31 (large) 33 (XL) 35 (2x) 37 (3x) 39 (4x) 41 (5x)Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next* Repeat * around. When you reach your first stitch marker fold your sweater in half so the long siders line up together. Ch 1, DC into the next stitch marker. Repeat * until you reach your next stitch marker. Ch 1, DC in the space your next marker is in. Repeat * for the rest of the row. Join to beginning with slst.
Rows 28-59 (small) 30-59- (medium) 32-63- (large) 34-65- (XL) 36-67 (2X) 38-67 (3X) 40-69- (4X) 42-71- (5X) Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Tie off. Join your secondary color (gray)
Next Row Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.
Repeat for 4 rows. Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC around. Join to beginning with slst.
Tie off. Weave in ends.
Sleeves
Tie on in the armpit making sure you are attaching to a sc stitch and not the ch or side of rows.
Row 1- Ch 1, sc decrease, DC decrease, sc decrease. *DC in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch.* Repeat * around until you have 6 stitches left. DC decrease, sc decrease, DC decrease. Join to beginning with slst.
Rows 2-36 (small) 38 (medium) 38 (large) 40 (XL) 42 (2X) 42 (3X) 44 (4X) 48 (5X)- Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next stitch* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Next row- Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, sc decrease in the next stitch* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Tie off. Join secondary color (gray)
Next Row Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.
Repeat for 4 rows. Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC around. Join to beginning with slst.
Tie off, weave in ends.
