Easy Peasy Summer Crop Top Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Everyone!

For those of you who are subscribed to my newsletter you already had a teaser of some summer clothes coming out this week and here it is! This crop top is SO easy to make perfect for beginners or advanced crocheters looking for a quick project. I’m plus sized and I was able to make this top in a couple of hours, that’s how quickly this works up!

For all my heavy set crocheters out there this project is great for you! The under stitches help provide support for bigger chests, and wearing this with a pair of high waisted yoga pants felt very empowering. Plus I know how rare it is to find patterns that can work for our bodies. Make sure to check back here throughout the summer because all patterns this year are going to be plus size friendly.

This project uses a weight 4 yarn but it’s very customizable, in fact the pattern is going to be just a guideline on how to get this pattern to fit you, so you could make this using a thinner or even a thicker yarn. I heavily suggest you use a cotton, bamboo, or linen for this project so you’re not overheating the whole time you’re wearing it. I always use cotton blends personally, they help prevent the under bust sweat that’s so common for plus sized individuals.

Let’s get hooking!

Supplies

5mm crochet hook.

about 200 grams of a weight 4 yarn. I used about 4 balls of pastel cotton from ice yarns which is currently not available (It comes back at the start of each summer) a good substitute could be the natural cotton worsted from ice yarns. If you would like to make this with a thinner yarn some yarns I suggest is denim from iceyarns, its a cotton acrylic blend that I LOVE.

Sewing tape measure to measure your bust.

Darning needle.

Scissors. I like the clover yarn cutter.

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

HDC- Half double crochet

DC- Double crochet

Sc- Single crochet

Slst- Slip stitch

Crop Top Pattern

Ch 33 (this is for me I fit an extra large. you can adjust this number by measuring from about 3 inches under your breast up to where you want this top to sit. If you want it to be higher than measure higher up on your chest, if you want it lower, measure to lower on your chest.)

Row 1- Work 1 HDC in the second ch from hook and in each ch across. (32)

Rows 2-122- Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each stitch across. This is how many rows I worked for my bust which is an extra-large. I suggest working rows until it fits snugly around your chest. You want it snug since crochet stretches over time, I do it about 1-2 inches under where it fits comfortably around my chest. If you’re making this as a gift for someone else and you know their size here’s a list of general bust measurements based on size.
XXS- 28-30 inches
XSmall- 30-32 inches
Small- 32-34 inches
Medium- 34-36 inches
Large- 36-38 inches
XLarge- 38-40 inches
XXL- 40-42 inches
3X- 43-45 inches

Sew your first and last row together.

Top Border

Tie onto the edge you want to be the top side of your crop top with a slst.

Ch 1, sc into the same stitch you joined to. Work 1 sc into the side of each HDC row around. Join to th first sc with a slst once you make it all the way around the top edge of your top.

Stomach

Tie onto the bottom side of your top.

Row 1- Ch 1 and work 1 sc into the same stitch you tied onto. Work 1 sc into the side of each row around. Once you reach your first sc and you’ve worked all the way around your row slst into the first sc.

Rows 2-7- Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each sc around. Join to beginning with a slst.

Tie off. Weave in ends.

Before we go…

As always I hope you all liked today’s pattern. I did this one a little different than others to make it more customizable, let me know if you prefer this style or to have the basic sizes written out individually. This project worked up so quickly and I definitely plan on making a few more, especially to wear with a pair of high waisted yoga pants or skirts.

I have a few more crop tops that will be coming out over the next few weeks so I hope you all enjoy the summer clothing patterns! I have a couple halter tops worked up and I plan on experimenting with some new styles. I also plan on taking a shot at some shorts so if that goes smoothly you might also see some short patterns coming up. Plus side for my plus sized readers those will also be made to fit me and up to a few sizes larger.

    1. I put it on and place a stitch marker where I want it to sit on either side. Then I measure it from where the top starts in the front to where I want it to sit in the back. I subtract 2 inches from that to make up for the stretch of the stitches. I double crochet until it reaches that length then sew it to the back.
