Easy Peasy Chemo Cap Free Crochet Pattern

Hello everyone!

It’s day 2 of 10 of my 10 days of giving crochet pattern blowout and today I’m bringing you a super quick and easy chemo cap pattern. As some of you may know cancer care is something that’s very close to home for me so every year during my 10 days of giving I make sure to include at least one cancer care pattern. This pattern is made with a very soft acrylic yarn and uses only beginner friendly stitches making this a perfect project for anyone to get into the giving spirit this holiday season.

As I’m sure you can guess by the theme of today’s pattern we are going to talk about cancer related charities today. The first thing I am going to mention is chemo baskets for your local chemo wards. You can make nice chemo caps, port covers, even scarves and fingerless mittens since the treatment rooms are often ridiculously cold. Other things you can add to your chemo baskets are little mints, warm cozy socks, nice gentle lotions and bath/shower products. If you google chemo baskets you can also find lots of resources of things other people have put in their baskets.

If you would prefer to donate your items to an organization who will get your chemo caps to the people who need them this is a great organization. The crochet for cancer society also has many chapters around so you may even be able to find a local drop off location.

Another way you can help out cancer patients is to sell items and donate a portion of your profits to a cancer organization that you support. The national breast cancer foundation which is a very highly rated and trusted charity. Another great one with a high rating is the American cancer society.

Let’s get hooking!

Supplies

6.5mm crochet hook

about 60 grams of a weight 5 yarn. I used fantasy from Hobbii which is a very soft acrylic that is perfect for chemo caps.

Scissors

Darning needle

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

HDC- Half double crochet

Slst- Slip stitch

Hdcslst- Half double crochet slip stitch. You work this stitch the same as a half double crochet but instead of yarning over and pulling through the 3 loops on your hook you won’t yarn over and instead pull the third loop on your hook through the other 2 loops.

At this point you could sew a button onto the inside and attach a pompom if you would like but personally, I don’t usually add those for chemo caps.
