Easy Chunky Cat Ear Beanie Free Crochet Pattern

Hello everyone!

It’s day 4 of the 12 day of Christmas crochet pattern blowout and we are doing another cat ear beanie. This is the version I made for my husband who requested a cat ear beanie for Christmas. This hat took me about 3 hours to design and about an hour to remake after designing. (the black version is the second one I made that one is for my husband!)

This pattern is super easy all you need to know is basic stitches, and front and back post double crochet stitches for the brim. It can also be easily adapted to use with whatever yarns you would like just work the first row until it fits comfortably around your head and is an even number of stitches.

You can follow me on Facebook if you would like updates on new projects and the occasional instructional videos.

This pattern will be available on my Patreon as a PDF by the end of the month for my $6 and up subs. (You will also have access to the 10 patterns I designed last month!)

Let’s get hooking!

Supplies

1 ball of a weight 5 yarn I used premier serenity chunky for both of mine.

7mm crochet hook

Scissors

Darning needle

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

Sc- Single crochet

DC- Double crochet

FPDC- Front post double crochet

BPDC- Back post double crochet

Slst- Slip stitch.

Notes

For the chunky yarn my gauge is about 2 stitches= 1 inch.

The top you can sc closed, slst closed, or sew closed. It’s whatever you prefer I prefer the stitched look across the top so I used sc stitches.

To size this pattern up or down or use different yarns just work the foundation double crochet stitches until it fits around your head, or the measurement you’re using. Make sure you end with an even number of stitches.

Remember this pattern will be available on my Patreon by the end of the month as a PDF pattern.

Row 1- Work 41 foundation DC. Join to beginning. (42)

Rows 2-5 Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC around. Join to beginning with slst.

Rows 6-18- Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next stitch.* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.

You can fold your piece in half here and place your seam on the side of your project and sc across the top going through both sides of the piece laid flat.

You can tie off, slst to join in the corner when laid flat. and sc across both sides. This will keep the seam in the back if you prefer that.

You can also tie of and leave a long tail then use the tail to sew across the top.

You can now wear or gift your beanie!
