Hello Everyone!
It’s Friday once again and I’ve worked up another little baby cardigan for all of you. This one uses super beginner friendly stitches making it a great mindless project or first project of baby clothing.
This crochet baby sweater will fit a 3-6 months, and is made using the yoke method.
This baby sweater uses a thin weight 5 yarn or a thick weight 4 yarn. You can use any yarn that you can meet gauge with.

Supplies
5.5mm crochet hook
5mm crochet hook
1 200 gram ball of a thin weight 5 or a thick weight 4 yarn. I used puzzle yarn.
Buttons in the color of your choice I used buttons from this set for the white ones and the wooden one on top came from this set.
Darning needle.
Scissors. I like the clover yarn cutter.
Abbreviations
Ch- Chain
DC- Double crochet
FPDC- Front post double crochet
BPDC- Back post double crochet
Slst- Slip stitch
Notes
Gauge- 3 stitches= 1 inch 2 rows= 1 inch
When working the sleeves you can either work your stitches tighter, or switch to a 5mm crochet hook.
This sweater will fit sizes 3-6 months.
Baby Cardigan Pattern
Ch 50
Row 1- DC in third ch from hook and in the next 6 stitches. Work 3 DC in the next stitch. (Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of your increase)
Work 1 DC in the next 8 stitches, work 3 DC in the next stitch. Place stitch marker in second stitch of increase.
Work 1 DC in the next 14 stitches, work 3 DC in the next stitch. Place stitch marker in the second stitch of increase.
Work 1 DC in the next 8 stitches, work 3 DC in the next stitch. Place stitch marker in the second stitch of increase.
Work 1 DC in the last 7 stitches. (56)
Row 2- Ch 2, turn *work 1 DC in each stitch until you reach your next stitch marker. Remove the stitch marker, work 3 DC in the space it was in then put your marker into the second stitch of this increase* Repeat * around. (64)
Row 3- Repeat row 2. (72)
Row 4- Repeat row 2. (80)
Row 5- Repeat row 2. (88)
Row 6- Repeat row 2. (96)
Row 7- Ch 2, work 1 DC in each stitch until you reach your first stitch marker. Fold your yoke in half, ch 1, DC in the space of your next stitch marker. Work 1 DC in each stitch until you reach your next stitch marker. Ch 1, DC in the space of your next stitch marker. Work 1 DC in each remaining stitch. (58)
Row 8- Ch 2, turn work 1 DC in each stitch around. When you reach the ch stitches work 1 DC in the back loop only of your ch stitches.
Rows 9-14- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around
Rows 15-17- Ch 2, turn, work 1 DC in the first stitch. *FPDC in the next stitch, BPDC in the next stitch.* Repeat * across until you only have 1 stitch left. DC in the final stitch.
Border
At the end of row 17 ch 1, turn your work so you’re going into the side of each row. Switch to a 5mm hook and work 2 sc into the side of each DC row.
Once you reach the top of that side switch back to a 5.5mm hook, alternate FPDC and BPDC across the neckline.
Ch 2, switch back to a 5mm hook, work 2 sc into the side of each DC row going down. At the end of that side ch 1 and slst to the first stitch on the bottom row.
Tie off. Weave in ends.
Sleeves
Row 1- Tie on in your armpit space ch 2, work 2 DC in your armpit space. Work 1 DC in each remaining stitch around. Join to beginning with slst. (23)
Rows 2-10- Ch 2, turn, work 1 DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 11- Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC around until you have 1 stitch remaining. Skip the last stitch, join to beginning with slst.
Tie off, repeat on other side.
Weave in ends.
Sew on buttons.
