Crunch Time Baby Sweater Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Everyone!

It’s Friday again and I’m excited to bring you all this super cute baby cardigan. This cardigan uses a weight 5 bulky yarn making it not only cute but a super fast project to work up.

Supplies

5.5mm crochet hook

5mm crochet hook

1 200 gram ball of a weight 5 baby yarn. I used puzzle yarn.

3 buttons. I used buttons from this set on amazon.

Darning needle.

Needle and thread for sewing on buttons.

Scissors. I like the clover yarn cutter.

Abbreviations

Ch- Chain

DC- Double crochet

HDC- Half double crochet

Slst- Slip stitch

FPDC- Front post double crochet

BPDC- Back post double crochet

Sc- Single crochet

BLO- Back loop only

Notes

Gauge- 3 stitches= 1 inch 4 rows of crunch stitch= 1 inch

The yarn I used is a thin weight 5 or a thick weight 4 so make sure to check gauge with whatever yarn you use.

The button holes will be the gaps formed in the sides of you double crochet rows from the yoke.

Baby Sweater Pattern

Ch 50

Row 1- DC in third ch from hook and in the next 6 stitches. Work 3 DC in the next stitch. (Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of this increase. Do this for the rest of the row)

Work 1 DC in the next 8 stitches. 3 DC in the next stitch.

Work 1 DC in the next 14 stitches. 3 DC in the next stitch.

Work 1 DC in the next 8 stitches, 3 DC in the next stitch.

Work 1 DC in the last 7 stitches. (56)

Row 2- Ch 2, turn, work 1 DC in each stitch. When you reach the second stitch of each increase (you should have a marker in these stitches) remove marker and work 3 DC. Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of the increase again. (64)

Row 3- Repeat row 2 (72)

Row 4- Repeat row 2 (80)

Row 5- Repeat row 2 (88)

Row 6- Repeat row 2 (96)

Row 7- Ch 1, *work 1 HDC in the next stitch, slst into the next stitch* Repeat to your first stitch marker. Fold your yoke in half so that the open part is in the front facing you.

Ch 2, work your next stitch in the space of your next stitch marker.

Repeat * to your next stitch marker. Ch 2, work your next stitch in the next stitch marker.

Repeat * to the end of the row. (60)

Row 8- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each stitch around.

Row 9- Ch 1, turn *HDC in the next stitch, slst in the next stitch* Repeat around.

Row 10- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each stitch around.

Rows 11-24- Repeat rows 9-10

Row 25- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around.

Row 26-28- Ch 2, turn, *FPDC in the next stitch, BPDC in the next stitch.* Repeat * around.

Border

Ch 2 at the end of your final row and switch to a 5mm crochet hook.

Work 2 sc into the side of each DC row.

Work 1 sc into the side of each HDC/crunch stitch row.

Once you reach the top of the first side switch back to a 5.5mm crochet hook, alternate FPDC and BPDC across the neckline of your sweater.

Once you reach the end of the neckline switch back to your 5mm crochet hook, and repeat the other side down.

Ch 2, slst into the closest stitch to you of the final row on your body.

Tie off weave in ends.

Sleeves

Attach to the armpit part of your armhole.

Row 1- Ch 2, work 1 DC into each stitch, work in the BLO of your ch stitches. (24)

Rows 2-3- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.

Row 4- Ch 1, turn, *HDC in the next stitch, slst into the next stitch* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.

Row 5- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.

Rows 6-16- Repeat rows 4-5.

Row 17- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.

Row 18- Ch 2, turn, *FPDC in the next stitch, BPDC in the next stitch* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.

Repeat on the other side.

Tie off. Weave in ends.
