Hello Everyone!
It’s Friday once again and I told you all last week that there was going to be another hooded pattern this week. I’ve been playing around with hood a lot lately and having a great time doing so so don’t be surprised to see them more in the future.
This week I have a hooded poncho (I’ve also been in a poncho kick and I love wearing them!) made in bulky yarn and a simple stitch repeat that even a beginner could do. The bulky yarn makes it work up so quickly so this is a perfect project wo whip up quick if you want a wearable in a short amount of time. This one took me about 3 days to do start from finish so it works up really quickly for the size.

Supplies
9mm crochet hook
2 balls of your hood and edging color of a weight 5 bulky yarn I used atlas in teal from iceyarns.
6-8 balls of your main color in the same bulky weight 5 yarn. (I used about 6 but if you wanted it longer you’ll want an extra ball or 2.)
Stitch markers
Darning needle
Scissors
Abbreviations
Ch- Chain
Sc- Single crochet
DC- Double crochet
FPDC- Front post double crochet
BPDC- Back post double crochet
HDC- Half double crochet
HDC puff stitch- this stitch is worked by yarning over and drawing up a loopso you have 3 loop on your hook. Yarn over and draw up another loop so now you have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and draw through all 5 loops.
Slst- Slip stitch
Notes
The right side is the side if your HDC puff stitches that has one loop.
Poncho Crochet Pattern
Remember this pattern will be available as a PDF on my patreon by the end of the month.
Row 1- Work 79 foundation HDC. Join to beginning. You will end with 80 stitches.
Row 2- Ch 1, turn, HDC and HDC puff for 19 stitches. *Work 1 HDC, 1 HDC puff stitch, 1 HDC in the next stitch, Place a stitch marker in the second stitch of your increase. Alternate HDC and HDC puff for the next 19 stitches* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 3- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each stitch around. When you reach your stitch markers remove your stitch marker and work 3 HDC in the stitch your marker was in, Replace marker in second stitch of increase.
Row 4- Ch 1, turn, *alternate HDC and HDC puff stitch until you reach your stitch marker. Remove stitch marker and continuing in your HDC, HDC puff work 3 stitches in the space your stitch marker was in.* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 5- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each stitch around. When you reach your stitch markers remove your stitch marker and work 3 HDC in the stitch your marker was in, Replace marker in second stitch of increase.
Tie off.
Join color 2
Row 6- Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next stitch, DC in the next.* Repeat until you reach your stitch marker. Remove marker, work 3 stitches in the space your marker was in continuing in your alternating sc and DC. Place marker back in second stitch of increase.* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 7- Ch 1, turn, *Work 1 sc in the next stitch 1 DC in the next stitch* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Rows 8-30- Repeat rows 6-7.
If you would like a longer poncho keep doing the repeat until it’s and inch shorter than your desired length.
Tie off, tie on your first color.
Row 31- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around working 3 DC in the in the stitch your stitch markers were in. Replace your marker in the second stitch of your increase. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 32- Ch 2, turn, alternate FPDC and BPDC around. When you reach your stitch markers work a FPDC, DC, FPDC in the stitch your marker was in. Join to beginning with slst.
Tie off, weave in ends.
Hood
Find the center of the front of your poncho. Count in 20 stitches from either side of your center and place a marker in the 20th stitch.
Row 1- Tie into the marker that has the right side of your work facing you. Ch 1, HDC into the same stitch you tie onto. *HDC puff stitch in the next stitch, HDC in the next* Repeat * to your other stitch marker.
Row 2- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each each stitch across.
Row 3- Ch 1, turn, *HDC in the next stitch, HDC puff stitch in the next* Repeat * around.
Rows 4-17- Repeat rows 2-3
Row 18- Ch 1, turn, HDC in the first 15 stitches, work an HDC decrease in the next 5 stitches, HDC in the last 15 stitches.
Tie off leaving a long tail.
Using your tail fold your hood in half so the top row is flush with itself. Sew the top shut.
Weave in ends.
