World’s Easiest Crochet Messy Bun Hat

Women standing in front of a brick wall wearing a crochet messy bun hat. The hat is made with simple stitches and gradients between a teal, light blue, and purple.

Hello Everybody!

We’re here today on a Thursday with a surprise crochet messy bun hat pattern. This hat is made with the Roseto Worsted Yarn from Ice Yarns and this pattern is accompanying a new yarn review.

This hat is perfect for beginner crocheters using only the double crochet stitch. It works up super quickly and would also be great for stocking up craft fair booths. Use a nice self-striping yarn and you have a large supply of unique items that will come out beautifully unique!

We begin this hat by crocheting around a hair tie. This makes it to so you can pull your hair up into it without needing to put it in a hair tie first. This works great if you’re hoping to avoid hat hair, and not freeze in the winter!

This pattern contains affiliate links. This means if you order anything using one of my links I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Before we go

This hat was really relaxing for me to design for you guys and I hope you enjoy making it as well. If you do choose to use the Roseto worsted for this hat it comes in many colors and works up beautifully. If not I really suggest a color-changing or self-striping yarn. The color changes work beautifully in this pattern since there’s no texture for it to draw away from.

If you need to make this hat smaller or larger add more increase rows, adding 1 stitch before you work your increase. For smaller just take out an increase row or 2!
