Ridges and Valleys Crochet Pillow Cover

Hello Everyone

Today we have a surprise pattern since it is Thursday! Yes, there will also be another pattern coming out tomorrow! The reason for today’s surprise crochet pattern is I was asked to design a pattern for a roundup put together by the lovely lady over at Carroway Crochet! You can find her blog here where she also offers free crochet patterns https://carrowaycrochet.com/.

This pattern was a lot of fun to make and I got to use one of my yarns I haven’t gt to use a whole bunch yet. The yarn is a discontinued yarn from ice yarns, but can easily be subbed out for Red Heart “With Love”. Use the sparkle version to keep the glitter!

This pattern uses beginner-friendly crochet stitches, the joining is a bit difficult but you can use the whip stitch instead of joining with crochet to simplify it a bit!

Let’s get hooking!

Supplies

This used 4 and a half 50g balls of the gray yarn I am using. 2 Balls of Red Heart “With Love” however should work great. And 1 ball of green, and blue. 1 ball of Red Heart “With Love” should be plenty in each of your accent colors.

5.5mm crochet hook. I use the Clover 5.5mm which you can find here https://amzn.to/2W7zyt1

Joining

Tie on to the side of a panel (Will do this on the side of every panel)

Ch 1, sc into the side of the stitch you joined to. Work 1 sc into the side of each row.

Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc into each sc you just worked.

Tie off

Once you have done this part you can just take your darning needle and whip stitch all of the panels together.

If you choose to do this make sure the blue stripes lineup, panel 2 should overlap panel 1. On panel 2 don’t sew the blue stripe to front blue stripe. Start sewing together at row 24 of panel 2.

If you want to crochet them together follow the directions below.

Join the front panel with back panel 1 (Make sure the blue rows match up with each other)

Tie on your yarn through the first sc of each panel. (You will be working through 2 rows of sc.)

Work 1 sc all the way down until you reach the end of back panel 1. Make sure you are working through the last sc row of both panels.

Connect panel 2, make sure the blue lines up with the blue on front. (You will be working into the 24th stitch of panel 2)

Sc in each remaining stitch still making sure your crocheting through the side of both panels.

Tie off.

Repeat on opposite side, but start at the bottom of back panel 2, work up 24 stitches, then connect back panel 1.

Joining the top

Connect into the side of the sc row you just worked, Ch 1, sc into the side of the next 3 sc rows.

Here you will reach where the 2 panels are not connected. Work through the front and back panel (You will do this on the top and bottom) and sc in each stitch across. Work 1 sc into the side of each sc row on the opposite side.

Before we go.

I hope you all enjoyed today’s pattern. This was a lot of fun to make, I apologize for the confusing joining directions I realized as I was writing up the pattern that I should have photographed the process to make it a bit more user-friendly. If they’re too confusing just use the whip stitch! The cover will turn out almost the same and it will look great.

I love working with the back loop and front loop half doubles so this project was a lot of fun for me to make. I love watching the raised texture form and the light colors added some contrast that really appealed to me!

This is my first home decor project so it was a little out of my usual zone of crochet wearables and I hope you all enjoyed taking this little detour with me. If you would like to see some more home decor projects check out the patterns over at Carroway crochet which once again you can find here https://carrowaycrochet.com/.

Once again I hope you all enjoyed today’s pattern and as always happy hooking!
