Gradient Halter Top Free Crochet Pattern

Introduction

Hello, everyone, I am super excited to bring you this post today for several reasons. One of which is this is my first time crocheting with a fine cake and I absolutely love the way it worked up and the color pattern so I can’t wait to see what some of you make with these! (Yarn can be found here https://crochetwithkim.com/7k6k)

These next few summer crochet top patterns will be marking the change from summer to fall! So stay tuned and check back regularly for fall and winter patterns!

The top we will be crocheting today only has a front panel, 2 ties in the back connect it, making this an extremely breathable top, perfect for hot summer days or to use as a beach cover-up!

This halter top free crochet pattern uses beginner friendly stitches, and will fit a medium to large. To make it fit other sizes use more or less foundation stitches. The first row of stitches should be the length of your neck width.

Row 19- Ch 1, hdc in each stitch across

Row 20- Repeat Row 10

Rows 21-95- Repeat rows 10-19 until you have 95 rows

Tie off

Collar

We will be working the collar separately then whip stitching it onto the body at the end.

Row 1- Work 77 foundation hdc (counting beg ch)

Row 2-8- Ch 1, hdc in each stitch across

Tie off.

Whipstitch front to the collar (We will be adding braids to either side of the collar later to allow it to tie on.

Border

For the border, I used the beginning of the other cake (these cakes come in packages of 2)

Border– Tie on in the side of the top row of the body. Ch 1, work 1 sc in the stitch you just connected to. Work 1 sc in the side of each row until you have 3 left.

Tie off and repeat on the other side.

Ties

We will now be crocheting the ties at the bottom of the back. You will work this on both sides.

Row 1- Connect to the sc you tied off on for whatever side you are starting with. Work 1 hdc in the remaining 3 stitches.

Rows 2-5- Ch 1, work 1 hdc in each 3 stitches across.

Rows 6-45- Ch 2, work 1 DC in each 3 stitches across.

Tie off.

Finishing up

For your second tie we will be connecting 3 long (double arm span) strands of yarn into the side of row 65. Double this over so it is in half, and braid with the 6 strands you now have (2 strings in each group)

Attach the same way with shorter string (1-2 feet) to each corner of the collar (4 in total) and braid in the same way.

Personalization

For those of you who would like something with a little more modest look, or feel to it then when working your border leave 10 stitches open at the bottom. Tie on and crochet across the 10 rows the same way we did the first tie. Work rows until it reaches your spine and repeat on the opposite side, now stitch each end of these together and it will act as a partial back that you don’t need to tie on.

At the other tie with the braid, you can repeat the original back tie with the DC and make a thicker more secure tie!

The size of this top can be adjusted by simply changing the beginning foundation hdc, and adding shorter or longer ties. If you would like it to cover your stomach then add a few extra rows of crochet until it is your desired length!

Like I said, in the beginning, I am very excited to be bringing this crochet summer top to you today and it was a treat to be able to make, and now have in my wardrobe. The cake used was 50% cotton and 50% acrylic cake for those who didn’t take a look at the yarn I used it is so perfect for any kind of summer crochet and the thinness of it allowed for a beautiful drape in the finished project.

I hope you all check back often, I will be bringing you a pattern every Friday, but with all the holidays coming up and end of season stuff I might be publishing some surprise patterns!
