Hello Everyone!
It’s Friday once again and I finally have this dress pattern completed! I have been working on this dress on and off since the snow started melting and I am so excited to finally be able to bring this pattern to you. This pattern uses pretty simple stitches s I would say its an ambitious beginner project. There’s not a whole lot of shaping that needs to be done mainly just bust and waist.
This pattern will be written as a tutorial more than a pattern so that you can make this dress to fit your individual body the best it can.
This pattern will be available as a PDF on my Patreon by the end of the month
Let’s get hooking!
Supplies
For the extra large size I used 3 sultan cotton king cakes from hobbii in the colorway ocean jasper. Each cake is 200 grams and a weight 2 sports weight yarn.
3.25mm crochet hook.
3.75mm crochet hook. (You can skip this if you can work loosly with a 3.25mm crochet hook.)
Scissors.
Darning needle.
Abbreviations
Ch- Chain
HDC- Half double crochet
DC- Double crochet
FPDC- Front post double crochet
BPDC- Back post double crochet
Slst- Slip stitch
Sc- Single crochet
The border is worked in crab stitch which is single crochet stitches worked backwards so instead of turning you just work back in the direction you came with sc stitches. If you are confused there are videos on youtube that explain it better just look up crochet crab stitch border.
Notes
5 sttches = 1 inch
You can easily adjust this pattern with a different yarn or gauge by measuring how many stitches you work per inch and multiplying that by the bust measurement. And if you choose to lace up the back then you can subtract how many inches you want the back to be open before doing your math.
Dress Pattern
Remember this pattern will be available as a PDF on my Patreon by the end of the month.
Start with your 3.25mm hook and 5 stitch=1 inch gauge
Row 1- Using the size chart above do a number of foundation HDC until it is the desired length. I made mine where it laces up in the back so that it will continue to fit me if I fluctuate size and I made it to be about 5 inches less than the measurement for the 1x size. If you want it to be a full band with no lace in the back then I suggest working your first row as 2 inches smaller than your desired size so you have some ease.
Rows 2-52- Ch 1, turn, HDC in each stitch across. (You can work more or less rows here depending on where you want your waist to sit. I prefer mine on my natural waist so that’s where I worked mine to.)
Row 53- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch across. If you did a lace up back then chain 16 (or as long as you need to fit your waist. I did a 5 inch opening in the back so I added 3 inches to connect the waist that way I had 2 inches of ease so its nicely fitted. Make sure the number you chain is an even number) If you worked a closed top with no lace in the back then I suggest decreasing about 6 stitches in the sides of this row.
Row 54- Ch 2, turn, Alternate FPDC and BPDC in each stitch around. If you have chain stitches then just DC in the ch stitches. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 55-63- Ch 2, turn, Alternate FPDC and BPDC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 64- Ch 2, turn, *Work 1 DC in the next stitch, 2 DC in the next stitch* Repeat * around. Join to beginning with slst.
Switch to your 3.75mm hook or loosen your tension
Rows 64-124- Ch 2, turn, DC in each stitch around. Join to beginning with slst.
Row 125- Work crab stitch all the way around. Join to beginning with slst.
Tie off, weave in ends.
Straps
For the straps I put mine on and placed a stitch marker where I wanted the straps to be. I made sure there were an equal number of stitches from the back to where each strap started to make sure they sat evenly.
I tied on and worked 1 DC in the next 3 stitches.
Ch 2, turn, DC in the 3 stitches across.
Repeat this until your straps can comfortably reach to the back. Join them to the back with slst.
Tie off. Weave in ends.
Before we go…
As always I hope you all enjoyed today’s pattern. I absolutely loved making this piece and am so excited to finally be able to share it all with you. The drape on the skirt is awesome and this will definitely be something I wear frequently until it gets too cold here in Minnesota to do so.
I absolutely plan to make more dresses in the future I have a ton more cake yarns that I’ve been making plans for since I started this dress so you can all look forward to that!
If you have any questions feel free to let me know this is my first time writing a pattern like this so if any part doesn’t make sense I am more than happy to help you figure it out. I will be adding pictures in the future as I make more of these based off where I get the most questions about. I will respond the fastest over Facebook or Instagram.
If you enjoyed today’s pattern you can follow me on Facebook to see new patterns when they come out and if you make a project using some of my patterns you can join my Facebook group and show them off. I would absolutely love to see what all of you make. You can also tag me on instagram @crochetwithkiminsta with your makes using my patterns!
