Introduction
Hello everyone! If you’ve been on the blog recently then you know I recently released the last 2 summer projects of the year. With both of them using the same yarn it seemed like a yarn review was in order as well! This yarn is a summer yarn so this will also mark my last summer yarn review of the year.
This yarn was fantastic to work with, I’ve ordered in almost all the colors they have available because it’s very soft and super lightweight. Also before we get into the review I would like to state that I am not paid by iceyarns to make this post. This post will contain affiliate links which means if you purchase through them I make a small commission but all opinions listed are my own. I only affiliate with this website because I honestly love their product, and it’s the primary yarn brand I use for the majority of my projects.
For this post, I will be going over some of my favorite aspects of this yarn, along with some of my least favorite. If you would like me to go over certain things about this yarn that I may have missed then let me know in the comments, or on my facebook page here https://crochetwithkim.com/vb1e. Let’s get started!
Overview Of This Yarn
This yarn can be found here https://crochetwithkim.com/qe7i on the iceyarn website, it comes in packages of 8 50g balls. This summer yarn is a blend of 35% cotton, 40% bamboo, and 25% linen. It’s also a weight 2 so it’s extra thin for summer as well. It comes in 12 colors at the moment, but they switch out pretty frequently.
Pros
I’m going to start with the pros of this yarn, and I’ll say now that I do really enjoy this yarn, there will be a few cons but none of them is a deal-breaker for me and I will continue using this yarn frequently for the summer months.
- Breathability- This yarn is incredibly breathable. The blend it uses has very little heat retention, and it’s nice and thin only adding to this.
- Softness- This yarn is soft but not in the same way most yarns are. This yarn has more of a silky smooth texture than a puffy soft like most yarn.
- Price- For the fiber content this yarn has a great price. It’s $7.99 for a package of 8 (on the iceyarns site you have to order your yarn in a package instead of individually). Remember shipping will usually double your order cost, but I still haven’t been able to beat the price anywhere else.
- Stretch- This yarn is definitely a cotton yarn, but compared to other cotton yarns it has amazing stretch. The stitch retention is also much better than most cotton yarns, and the stitches stay nice and tight instead of stretching out after a couple of uses.
Like I said above if you would like to hear about a specific aspect of the yarn I may have missed then feel free to comment and let me know and I will update the review!
Cons
Here we’re going to list the cons and again I do really enjoy this yarn but there are a few things I wish were different, or that makes working with it less pleasant than it could be.
- Color selection- This yarn has 12 colors available, and a good portion of them are different shades of the same color (great for gradients not great for variety). Many of them are brighter colors, most likely because it’s a summer yarn.
- Splitting- This yarn is silky and smooth, which leads to the fibers not sticking together very well. When working with this especially since it’s thin you need to be careful not to snag yarn with your hook.
- Drape- This yarn is a little stiff when you’re finished, especially if working tighter stitches to make clothing. This doesn’t make it any less breathable, you just have to adjust what you made with it a bit more when putting it on.
Conclusion
Overall I really recommend this yarn, it was nice to work with, made a comfortable finished item, and is an amazing summer blend. It does have a few downsides and if you’re looking for specific colors then a different yarn blend may be the option for you. The biggest downside, in my opinion, is the color selection, it really limits your options but if you find colors that go well together you can make some beautiful items with it.
I hope you all enjoyed this yarn review and it helps you make an informed decision on purchasing this yarn. The yarn again can be found here https://crochetwithkim.com/qe7i. In the future whenever I get several patterns available with a certain kind of yarn I will do a review on the yarn and how it did in the project I made. If there’s any specifically you would like me to review then let me know and if possible I will get one up as soon as possible!
